Born & raised in central British Columbia as the youngest of 3 siblings, I moved around a lot with my family. Having never settled in one place for long, I became an observer to my frequently shuffling world. I always had an eye for perspective, patterns, & parallels. Interest in drawing and design helped me bridge the gaps, initially sketching trains, cars & superheroes, to drawing comics for friends in elementary, to reproducing manufacturers badges and aftermarket logos. I progressed onward to create school flyers and the cover of the yearbook in my final high school. When applying to The Art Institute, I was awarded a scholarship for my submission in a poster design contest.

In the background, I was pivoting full time into Photoshop & the dizzying world of motion graphics & editing video as a living, but eventually I found a happy artistic medium between the digital & physical realm, with vector graphics, 3D printing & paintwork being my main focal points of expression.

When finding inspiration, I reference Abstract Expressionism, Bauhaus, Suprematism, & the Memphis movement. Artists of particular note include Alexander Calder, Massimo Vignelli, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Parra, Daniel Buren, Piet Mondrian, Verner Panton, & James Turrell.

The types of artwork I produce involve multi-coloured geometric shapes, wire, and abstractions of the male body. I also produce a self-detoxing balance of metropolitan still life & street photography, which resets my equilibrium between the abstract & reality.

I create as an outlet of expunged hardship, lessons learned, & self growth. I produce art to resonate with those who have felt like the growing pains of being the new kid, the outcast, the observer, & the clown, because I was that kid.

I take full advantage of my ability to use double entendré to veil multiple points of reference in my work, usually based on true events. Tongue in cheek, in every aspect of what I do.

Currently I operate theArtsofRiso at Railtown Studios in Vancouver, BC.
